How do make my dog stop peeing in his water bowl?

This is crazy. Everytime I give him fresh water, , within 30 minutes…… he’s pee’d in it!
I know that one of those automatic water jug/ bowls won’t work. He tears everything up, thinking it’s a toy.

He’s an outside dog, in a fenced in, concrete lot.
I put him on an extended tie-out, in my yard, every other day. I take him for walks in the evening. He gets plenty of love & attention.
I just can’t seem to keep fresh water for him.

HE MUST BE A MALE…THEY CAN GET VERY TERRITORIAL HE IS PEEING IN HIS BOWL TO MARK HIS TERRITORY TO LET EVERYONE ELSE KNOW THAT THIS IS HIS BOWL.I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ONE OF MY MALES.HE IS LARGE SO I HANG HIS WATER BUCKET UP ON A HOOK TO THE CHAIN LINK FENCE.TO HIGH FOR HIM TO PEE IN IT.

    GOOD LUCK

Have you tried getting him a new water bowl and putting it in a different location? He might be thinking that is his spot to pee.

try elevating his water so the stream can’t get in.

Try a diversion to see if it is the water he is specifically interested in wizzin’ in. Say, put sawdust, or some other item in his dish and watch him for a while. Otherwise, regulate his water at timed intervals when the dog is not being extremely active.

I agree with the first poster. Your dog has most likely taught himself that it’s his bathroom. New bowl and location.

    Maybe he digs the taste.

Yep, put his water in a plastic/metal bucket so he can’t pee in it or knock it over.

Maybe you should try to teach the dog to give you some kind of signal when he’s thirsty and then give him water from a water bottle. that might be tough though. or you could train him to go in the yard if he doesn’t know already.

you didn’t mention toys. he is marking his teritory and the bowl is part of that. I would try another bowl maybe he doesn’t like the plastic smell or can’t see the water in the glass one, different dish soap to clean it and maybe consider filtered water he may be reacting to the minerals in your water. I hope you don’t use the hose to fill it bad chemicals. be sure he has toys to occupy his time. worse case is he drinks his pee and that is fine as long as he doesn’t get into anything toxic. some animals are looking for more nutrients their food lacks and eat grass, dirt, feces and urine so you may try a different food too and always mix in water with the food so he at least gets fresh water then. (ofcourse you keep water out for him 24/7)

Wouldn’t worry too much about it, urine is sterile.
